So if you are in any sort of QSO, your station will show as busy and cannot take another incoming connection until your QSO is done. You can connect to only one station at a time, there is no option to allow hosting a conference (although you can connect to a conference). Things EchoMac does NOT have include just about all of the niceties that come with the PC version: It has a basic text chat facility.ĮchoMac is compatible with the Growl pop-up notification system. You can connect by clicking an item in the station list, or by entering the call or node number. A busy-out control to prevent other from initiating a connection to you, an on-screen PTT toggle button (command-Enter can also be used as a toggle). Online, you have basic search of the station list showing Call, Location, Node. You can specify up to four echolink servers. You can configure basic info like name, location, and station information. It does not have "sysop mode" features, and cannot be used to interface to a radio. You can use your Mac's mic and speakers to contact other echolink stations. It would appear that EchoMac is probably not going to get a lot more development, as the last updates to it were in 2010.ĮchoMac is essentially a bare-bones, "single-user mode" local client for EchoLink. For those using an earlier OSX, such as myself on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, EchoMAC is the only choice. It has been reworked as EchoHAM, which is available from the Mac App Store for 10.7 and later. Pretty good no-frills for single-user modeĮchoMac is an EchoLink client software for Mac OSX, 10.3.9 and later (up to at least 10.8 per docs). I may end up waiting for an updated version of Wine, and then try running the windows version on my MacBook. I've tried everything I can think of to make it work, and nothing seems to help. In EM I can not connect to the vast majority of stations, and have mixed results with the audio. On the iPhone and iPad my results are exactly the same. In Windows based EL I can connect to every station available, and can have good quality audio QSOs. I've set up port triggering and port forwarding for Echolink (EL) that works perfectly, but don't get the same results in EM. I've tried using EchoMac (EM) for years, and have always had nothing but problems. It is the most recent version of EchoHam. The best place to get the current software is from the Apple AppStore. It is an older version of EchoMac from 2010 that may not work for you. I downloaded it, entered my call and password, and it worked perfectly right from the start.ĭO NOT download the software from the Sourceforge link shown above. I just noticed that there is an updated version (about 6 months ago) of the software, which is now called "EchoHam" available on the App Store. Now called "EchoHam" on the App Store, and it WORKS!
